I am very excited to tell you that David Fertello and I are finally recording “The Scientist” today! We cannot wait to share this recording with you! If you’ve been to any of our live shows lately, then you’ve probably seen us do this unplugged on top of tables, or walking into the crowd. This is a very special song to us. Nashville is an amazing city that I feel very close to. The town is very inspiring. Music is everywhere, I feel at home there. In May of 2010, the town went underwater. Many families lost their homes and many lives were lost. It was devastating. On July 29th, I’m playing at the V Lounge in Santa Monica with some amazing artists for the Play It Forward Nashville Benefit Concert. Other artists include Jules Larson, Stereofox, Jamie Meyer, Douglas Truck Stop, Dave Yaden, Skip Heller, Aaron Beaumont, David George, Dave Green, The Northstar Session, Christy Paige and more… All of the donations go directly to the community and to the families that lost their homes. If you are in the LA area, I hope that you’ll come out and support this great cause. Please check out www.playitforwardnashville.com to learn about the organization and find out how you can help. Nashville has given so much to me, and I’m honored to be a part of this and give a little something back. I hope to see you at the show.
Yes, it’s true. I will now be staying away from delicious steak, In-N-Out cheeseburgers, brats, pizza, eggs…you get the picture. I will no longer be eating any animal products. It’s gonna be tough. I love food a lot, and I’m giving up some of my favorites, but it’s all going to be worth it. Wish me luck
You know when you’re getting sick and you have that day before that warns you about the cold that’s coming? You feel something funny in your throat, or you’re just completely exhausted… Well, I missed that warning day, and woke up the day of my show in Nashville with absolutely no voice. This show was a big one for me. Tons of industry, Tons of music supervisors… This was the show that I needed to KILL. I woke up in a panic. I went to the grocery store right away and got the most hippie things I could find. Throat coat, Entertainer’s Secret Throat Spray, Honey, EmergenC, this nasty healthy drink, I forget what it was called… and I just stayed in bed all day. I took tons of aspirin to take the swelling out of my vocal chords, slept all day, and prayed for my voice to come back. At sound check 3 hours away from the show, still no voice. My band had to basically sound check with out me. I was freaking out. We got back to the hotel room, and thanks to LOTS of Throat Coat tea, I was able to warm up my voice and there was a little something there. Not much, but there was some hope for me. I had my face in a steam mask and my heart was pounding hours before the show. I was so scared that I would embarrass myself, that I wouldn’t be able to sing, or I would crack on the high notes. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my vocals, and this was driving me crazy. On the way to the show, I realized I NEED to gargle apple cider vinegar. I knew that would be a huge help. We did not have time to do this, but I convinced my band it was a MUST. The first grocery store we came to was Closed… at 7:30. Who does that? Then, we found this hippie store that was closing, but my violinist, David, ripped open the doors and yelled “This is an emergency!” Pretty dramatic, but it got the job done! I got my apple cider vinegar, and was gargling and spitting it out the window. Not my most attractive moment. We got to the venue 10 minutes before my show started. I was so nervous. I got on stage to play, opened my mouth and my voice was there! A straight up miracle. I was so excited to have my voice back, that I sang the Sh*t out of my songs. It was amazing. It felt so good. I’ll never forget that show. I made some great connections and some new friends there. I can’t wait to see what comes out of that show. Oh, and if you ever lose your voice and need advice come to me, I figured out the perfect combo to get a voice back when you’re really REALLY sick.
So on this last tour, we got to play Good Morning Texas, the ABC morning news show. Pablo Francisco, the comedian of a million voices, was on the show as well. He came up to me, and I got to talk to him for a while. He seemed really cool, and invited my band to see his stand up show the next day. But he did end our convo at ABC by giving me a $50 bill and telling me about this amazing topless bar I had to go to. Seriously. After we performed on the show, Kat Kora from Iron Chef made us breakfast. Seriously. It was a good day. We miss you Texas, but we do not miss that heat.
Wow… A lot is going on right now. The band and I just pulled an all nighter from LA to Dallas. We left LA at 9 am yesterday and got into Dallas at 4 pm the today. That was rough, but it’s so nice to be back on the road again with my best friends. Our first show is in Dallas tomorrow morning for the WFAA morning news show. We’ll be rockin out at 8 am tomorrow morning. It’s gonna be crazy. We’re also gonna be playing at Opening Bell Coffee tomorrow night. Then were off to San Antonio and Austin! We unfortunately had to cancel our Houston show, so for all of you that were coming to Houston, I hope you can make it to another Texas date! After we blaze through Texas, we’re heading out to Nashville for a show and some writing sessions. I can’t wait to get back to writing. I’ll be working with one of my all time favorite writers, James Slater. We wrote “Beautiful Day,” “Every Heart” and “Mama” together. He’s my soul brother! We also just released a few new tracks on My Personal Sky! You can check out the whole album at http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/my-personal-sky/id370930918
We have a new store on the website! You can now order autographed CDs from www.sarahaze.com
Please visit the store section of the website to pick one up!
Oh and last but not least, I decided to get in touch with my darker side and died my hair dark brown. I hope you like it! You can check out some pics on my facebook page. I just needed a change, and I actually really like it! Scarlett Johanson inspired me, I hope that’s not totally lame, but she just looks so damn good with dark hair! Anyways, please check out the store, the new songs on iTunes, the tour dates and my new look! I freakin love you and I hope to see you at a show soon!
Love love,
Sara
We are stopping in LA in between tours to do a stripped down set at The Mint with Jared Lee… He is the shit! I love his music. I’m really excited to be back in LA to perform an acoustic set for you guys. I also have a surprise for all of you that come to the show… Any guesses?? Doors open at 8:00, I’m on at 8:30 and Jared is on right after me. This event is 21+
I hope to see you there!!
Love,
Sara Haze and Her Band of Spartans
I don’t know where to begin. This tour has been quite an adventure. We played our very first metal show in Salt Lake City, Utah. That show was surprisingly ridden with glory. We invited the entire crowd to get on the stage and dance with us, some of the crowd even free styled over “Beautiful Day.” All the fans signed Mike Wyzykowski’s (Drummer) Spartan bod, and we convinced the sound guy to turn David Fertello (Violinist) off before the opening song of the set. Unfortunately, he thought we were serious. Hilarious.
We ended the tour in Denver as direct support for Nico Vega. They kicked my ass. I’m officially going to learn how to jump on top of Mike’s drums, which was inspired by Aja (Lead singer of Nico Vega)… hopefully he’s ok with that and I don’t break his drums or my face. We also got to play with our good friends Sarah Slaton and Emily Jaye from Frentik. We could not have ended this tour on a better note. Even Nick Bearden (Guitarist) made a special guest appearance as the bands personal bartender. “I know people… and that person is me.” – Nick Bearden…Oh how we love Denver.
While we were there, I saved David Fertello’s life. Seriously. After taking an epic picture of me milking a blue cow, David was looking down at his phone to see the epic photo. While doing so, he walked right in front of an electric hybrid bus. The thing about electric buses is that they make absolutely no noise. As he was taking his final steps in front of this huge beast, I ran to his rescue and grabbed his bitchin bod to pull him within inches of permanent destruction. Please, don’t call me a hero. I just really love my band, and I will do anything to keep them from being dead.
We’re on our way home, driving for 16 hours from Denver to LA. Somebody needs to go to Blockbuster and buy movies before I punch Matt Reyes (Bassist) and David Fertello in the face for singing “Row Row Row Your Boat” in a round.
Merrily yours,
Sara Haze, David Ferello, Matt Reyes, Mike Wyzykowski and Nick Bearden

Keeping Portland Classy with Nick Bearden
So we are five days in to this tour, and we’ve played some pretty gorgeous cities so far. We’ve done some impromptu concerts in the van, and had some amazing food all up the coast. We got to play some really fun shows with our friends The Taxi Project, and Josh… Wow that BBQ was amazing! We’ve met some awesome new fans, and taken lots of pics at shows (which are on my facebook page). We’re heading up to Portland, Seattle and Spokane next. I’ve never been to any of those cities so it shall be an adventure for all of us. Alright, I’m off to sleep in my hotel bed. Hopefully I’ll be dreaming about being Hit Girl from Kick Ass cuz that movie rocks my world and I just saw it again! Batman is still my favorite Super Hero, but I got to say that Hit Girl is a close runner up. Nighty Night.
